Roaring 20s

I've been away for a while again, but things have been hectic with school! A little announcement: I got into a law school! I am officially going back to school in September to become a lawyer!
But anyway. I was on Pinterest the other day and saw this gorgeous photograph:
It made me want to do a '20s inspired look so badly that I decided to put aside a little time today to do just that. I only have two pictures since eye close-up shots would be boring, but here we go:

New Year's Eve!

Happy New Year everyone! 2013! We made it through another end of the world and get to live on. 2013 will be the best yet, right ; ).
Anyway, so here is what I did for last night; New Year's Eve is about shimmer and sparkle and dazzle and glamour, but I don't have any glitter! So I reached for Sugarpill's Goldilux since it is the glitteriest (I make up words now, too) and most dazzling gold eyeshadow ever. I could have gone gold + black or gold + navy (MUG's Nautica is beautiful), but this combination just sat there screaming my name. It turned out amazing, I got compliments on it all night.

I had the most difficult time getting good pictures, though; the sparkles didn't show and the huge eyelashes kept make the camera focus wrong! But here's what I got and some additional pictures from my iPod.
Funny story before the pictures; I ended up taking the eyelashes off before going out. Lesson learned: Don't nap with falsies on if you don't have any glue with you to fix them when you wake up and they're half falling off.
Enjoy!

Nikki from Makeup Junkie Nikki and I decided to continue on our collaboration with parts 3 and 4. They're amazing!

Chocolatey Purples Look

Hello Everyone!
I know I've been gone for so long, but I have had lots going on. Since the last post I made, I received my score for the LSAT... and registered to write again in February. I spent a long month doing all of my course work and trying my best to get excellent grades. I wrote 4 exams and completed my Fall semester in my fourth year of university. I started and finished my Christmas shopping, followed my an excellent last couple days of Christmas. And finally, I realized writing this post that it is my 1 year birthday for my blog!
Happy Birthday, Holding Beauty!
And thank you to all my followers for being loyal and beautiful and supportive! Couldn't have done it without you.

So my plan for today is to post two looks. I got some makeup and new brushes for Christmas and wanted to play today since I wasn't doing anything else (we're basically the only city in Ontario... Canada...that still has Boxing Day off). So, I put a different look on each eye and I am going to devote 1 post to each look :)

Collaboration Part 2 with Nikki from Makeup Junkie Nikki!

Here we go again with part 2 of my collaboration with Nikki from Makeup Junkie Nikki! This second part is with the colours that I chose for the look, which ended up having a purple theme because I love MUG purples! <3

See Nikki's look here

I had an idea for this look for a while now and I waited til the last minute to persecute so I was actually extremely happy with how this turned out. I wanted to go for a purple smokey eye winged out in a cat-eye manner with a crease blended out with orange (or in this case with Chickadee - an orange-yellow). I am very pleased with how this came out and I hope you will all like it as well. :)

The colours used in part 2 of the collab are:

Cervical Cancer Awareness look

I am writing a special post today in dedication to one of my best friends. She was recently given an unexpected diagnosis of Cervical Cancer at 21 years old. Fortunately, the early diagnosis of cervical cancer is a very good thing as cervical cancer ends up being very curable; one of the most curable cancers.

This look is for cervical cancer awareness done for my friend because she means a lot to me. So let's look at some facts with regard to awareness:

  • cervical cancer is the third most common type of cancer in women
  • cervical cancer is largely preventable and curable with REGULAR Pap tests and pelvic exams;
    • in fact, cervical cancer is much less common in the United States because of routine pap tests.
  • when discovered as precancerous cells during a pap smear, it is 100% treatable
  • early cervical cancer has no symptoms, so regular pap smears are extremely important
  • sexually active women should undergo Pap tests starting at 21 and should be done every one to two years
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, but let's face it ladies: We have other female parts which are extremely susceptible to cancer as well; so let's take the moment to learn a thing or two about cervical cancer today in addition to making sure we're getting regularly screened for early detection! Extremely treatable upon early detection.

So here's the look I did; the ribbon for Cervical Cancer awareness is teal and white so this look reflects that. I hope everyone likes it; this look and cause are very important to me.

Collaboration with Nikki from Makeup Junkie Nikki!

So as you can see from the last week, I have been trying to find some time between school and studying to get this blog active again. In my attempt to do this, fellow Canadian blogger Nikki from Makeup Junkie Nikki and I have been corresponding about doing a collaboration! I'm really excited about this collaboration as I think Nikki is very talented and the theme is just awesome.

As you may know about me, I absolutely love the products coming from Makeup Geek. If you read Nikki's blog, you'll know that she also totally loves Makeup Geek, so building off our idea for a colour palette theme, we decided to choose colours coming from the Makeup Geek eyeshadow line that we both owned and use those in our look. This will be a two part collaboration - part 1 using Nikki's colour palette and part 2 using mine!

Today I will be showing you part 1. Nikki chose this really wonderful colour palette with a camouflage feel. Her colours were:

I originally did a mostly green look with a burgundy undereye but it was more of a test try that I wanted to eventually redo in good. Then my eyes got infected. I'm on day 4 of eye infection right now and wearing makeup is a no-go. But I really wanted this collaboration to have my heart and soul in it, so I chose the least infected eye and decided to do my look in good!

I remembered this look that I had done in February that I never posted (because it wasn't up to par) that used Shimmermint and Burlesque. So using that idea, I redid my look much different than my original idea. This look had a Burlesque cut-crease blended out with Preppy; it has a Shimmermint lid with the outer corner darkened with Poison Ivy. Finally, the undereye has some Mocha to darken the lashline. I like this look much more than my previous one, so I hope you do too!

Used:
  • Makeup Geek colours
  • MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Curve Alert Mascara
  • Ardell Demi-Whispies

Stay tuned for next week for part 2 of this wonderful collaboration!!

Here's the look!
