Review: The Body Needs Mineral Eyeshadows

A few weeks ago I was contacted by The Body Needs to see if I was interested in trying some of their self-made mineral eyeshadows in exchange for an honest review if I decided I liked them (or didn't!). To be honest, I was excited but skeptical because I'm not a big loose eyeshadow user. I have my Sugarpill Goldilux which I love, but even then I rarely use it because I feel that loose eyeshadows have quite the learning curve if you're used to pressed shadows. Despite my skepticism, I decided that I wanted to try to use The Body Needs mineral shadows; I mean, what's wrong with learning a new medium? So I chose 5 shades in a wide range of finishes and in a spectrum of colours that I could create looks with easily and waited for them to arrive. When I got my package in the mail, I received not only the five mineral shadows but a mixing medium! (I used The Body Needs mixing medium for the swatches, if anyone is wondering!)

Onto the review! (I'll discuss the colour/pigmentation of each colour separately and then review the products as a whole at the end.)

Aquamarine - Shimmers Teal
Envious - Teal Brown - Matte Violet

Overall:
Pigmentation: 7.5/10
(Hard to generalize for all the colours, but if I have to, they are decently pigmented dry and amazing foiled).
Price: 9/10
($1.99 for the 5 gram jar or $3.79 for a 10 gram jar. Like I mention in the review, the 5 gram jars have enough product that they'll last me forever, so $1.99 is excellent).
Overall: 7.5/10
(I would most likely buy more - especially mattes(!), but mineral eyeshadows are still my weakness; I'm sure it'll get better! :) )

EOTD: Colours of Summer

Hi guys! I have another look for you today using the Body Needs colours; I'm trying to get a feel for them before I write the review on them (which I'm currently working on). I'm really liking the colours so far, but working with mineral eyeshadows is a new concept for me. Is there a learning curve to switching from pressed eyeshadows to loose, or is it just me? ;)

I don't have much else to say about this look, so here it is!

Used:
  • TBN Aquamarine (Foiled with Lise Watier Metamorphix on lid)
  • TBN Matte Violet (In crease)
  • Sugarpill Poison Plum (to define crease)
  • Sugarpill Tako (as highlight and in inner corner)
  • Physicians Formula 2 in 1 eye booster eyeliner pen
  • Clinique High Lengths Mascara

EOTD: The Body Needs mineral eye shadows

I got a couple packages in the mail the other day, one from Lush and one from The Body Needs, and I was super excited to try things from both. So far I've tried a lip scrub and lip tint from Lush which I've loved (just let me know if you want a review), but I really wanted to do some looks with The Body Needs eyeshadows.  I'll be doing a review on these eyeshadows in the near future with swatches, so keep your eyes open for that (the colours are absolutely gorgeous).

As a head's up, me and this look were extremely(!) unphotogenic today, so there's only 3 looks and even then they don't show it the greatest...
Anyway, here's the look!

Used:
Eyes
  • The Body Needs Shimmers Teal
  • The Body Needs Aquamarine
  • 88 Palette (Browns)
  • Sugarpill Tako
  • Physicians Formula 2 in 1 Eye Booster Eyeliner Pen
  • Clinique High Lengths mascara

Flower Series: Forget-Me-Nots

The wearers of these flowers will not be forgotten by their lovers.
Forget-me-nots have always been my favourite flower. There is just something so spectacular about their teensy tiny beauty. I'd recognize them anywhere by their vibrant blue hue, which is why when I went for a walk with the boyfriend yesterday and we were crossing a bridge over a river, I knew immediately that the field of blue at the river's edge was forget-me-nots.
I had full intention to do a look based on forget-me-nots some time during this series, but seeing all those flowers last night inspired me to do it right now. I didn't have a plan for this look, so I just went for it and I didn't mind how it turned out.

However, please not that it's scalding out and with the wild flowers sitting on my desk while I did this look, my allergies were acting up and I wanted to get this done, over with and off my face ASAP :P

Flower Series: Chrysanthemum

As you may know if you read my intro post on this blog, I have another passion other than makeup; I have always had a love for photography. So a while back when I was looking through my photography folder and came across all these beautifully coloured flowers, I decided to meld my two passions together into a series of makeup looks inspired by the flowers I have photographed. I have 5 looks planned, and this is the first of those five.

This one is inspired by a flower that I don't think is actually a Chrysanthemum but I don't know what it is, so I'm going with Chrysanthemum :P. If anyone can correct me, I'd be grateful!

I did one version of this look a while back (posted here), but I didn't think it was good enough to make official, so I made a face chart and today I produced the look I had planned.

So here we go!

FOTD: Dinner date

I do have an excuse for being absent lately - I finished exams, got busy at work and then lent out my memory card for my camera over 2 weeks ago and just got it back. So here is some content until I can get something better up. This was the look I wore tonight out for dinner with some old friends. I really wanted to use MUG's Poolside, but I didn't want it to be in your face, so I darkened the crease with a dark taupe from the 88 palette and ended up with this!

If you want to see more looks that I've posted recently that haven't made the cut for blog posts, like my page on Facebook!

Used:
  • Clinique Daybreak eyeshadow (inner eye)
  • Makeup Geek Poolside (outer corner)
  • 88 palette (dark taupe colour in crease)
  • Makeup Geek Shimmermint (blended out taupe)
  • Physician's Formula 2-in-1 Eye Booster eyeliner pen
  • Ardell #305
  • Revlon Lip Butter Berry Smoothie
